Brazilian Child Neurology Society

Notícia publicada em “Newsletter” – Boletim da International Child Neurology Association, em julho de 1998

Until 1996, the Brazilian Neuropediatricians were associated in the Brazilian Association of Child Neurology and Psychiatry (founded in 1967) which numbers among its associated members not only physicians but also psychologists, physiotherapists and other specialties related to Child Neurology and Psychiatry. Because of this, the Society was not recognised by the Brazilian Medical Association.

In August 1996, more than 200 neuropediatricians decided to found an independent Society, then called the Brazilian Society of Child Neurology (in Portuguese: Sociedade Brasileira de Neurologia Infantil - SBNI) which was recognised as a medical society and constitutes the Task Group of Child Neurology of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (linked to the World Federation of Neurology).

The SBNI participates, together with the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (ABN) and Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP), in the procedures of certification and education of Child Neurology specialists and also will participate in the regulation of residency programs in Child Neurology.

lt will also participate in the certification of the Services of Child Neurology, throughout the country that could have Residency programs.
